Who watched Initial D and thought, meh? It was ok the first season, but it was very predictable and, well, average. (Each successive season, to me at least, was just the previous with different cars) I see so many people, especially car people, praise it to heaven and back as this glorious show, and I just find it boring, predictable, and pedantic. I don't know though, I'm prolly just being over critical for no reason. Oh well

Oh, it's not a good show. But you don't watch it because it's a good show, you watch it for an entirely different reason.
You watch it because it shows you a culture you didn't know about before, straight from the source.
I like it (It reminds me of my high school days a lot) but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone that hadn't been involved in that sort of stuff.

I never watched but I have vague memories of these in high school
The guys that raced were way too into it, had a wait list of way too long and some club/group of dick heads had "priority" if they wanted to race and skip the line. I think I remember seeing chief dick head (that he was bumping me in line because he was so-and-so of the group ) is now working at Subway.

Well, I watched it when I was 14-15, so.... no.

It's probably overhyped to an extent due to nostalgia, but I can honestly say I wouldn't be nearly as into cars as I am not if it wasn't for Initial D. Initial D was the real starting point for me.

Were those the ones that had like, cards or something that you could use to track your progress?

That always seemed cool to me. What exactly was the point of that? Did you unlock different cars/parts/something? Or was it just to keep your wins/places/etc?

Some of my students really liked it when I recommended it but a bunch didn't like it at all. They didn't find Takumi or Natsuki relate-able. Personally I always preferred Bunta to Takumi and watched it for the cars.
